Forest Keeper protects over 20 million acres of U.S. public lands and supports forest guardians around the world. We safeguard forests for our future.

We are a coalition of scientists, attorneys, experts, and grassroots organizations protecting national forests and other public lands. Our public, legal, and political campaigns defend forests, protect watersheds, and sustain the long-term economic health of communities. Our network of Forest Keepers spans 18 states in the East, protecting 29 national forests that provide drinking water for 40 percent of Americans.

The Craggy Mountains of North Carolina protect some of the country's wildest and most ancient forests-but they are targeted for logging. This year, the U.S. Forest Service is finalizing its 30-year management plan, which will decide how much of the forest is cut and how much is protected.

About Us

Our grassroots network of Forest Keepers, our experienced staff, and our legal and political team protect national forests across the country. We are the only major conservation organization focused on national forests. We work directly with communities and forest land managers in the field—and with legislators and leaders on Capitol Hill—to secure the strongest possible protections for our forests. We also work to protect other public lands vital to our future.

Our members and supporters are the lifeblood of our work. They lead hikes and trail crews, monitor water quality, and participate in wildlife surveys. Their financial support enables us to fight legally and politically. Help us protect national forests and public lands in your neck of the woods. Speak for the trees and support our work.

SPEAK FOR THE TREES: Before Greta Thunberg, there were these kids.
