THE FOREST KEEPER NETWORK National Forests Where We Work

The Forest Keeper network includes forest guardians, organizations, and experts from each of these national forests.

Our Forest Keepers serve as the eyes, ears, and voices of their forests. They organize hikes, clean-ups, trail crews, and forest field work to assist understaffed federal agencies. They also advocate for forests and monitor them on the ground—which is more important than ever before.

In 2020, the U.S. Forest Service passed regulations that exempt them from notifying the public or conducting external scientific reviews when planning many commercial timber harvests or other projects. Without public and scientific input, the Forest Service can log many forests whenever and wherever they like, and the public won’t know about it until the trees are cut. Our Forest Keepers play a critical role in keeping the public informed and involved in how their lands are managed.
